Global Scans · Affordable and Clean Energy · Weekly Summary

In September 2015, 193 world leaders agreed to 17 Global Goals for Sustainable Development. If these Goals are completed, it would mean an end to extreme poverty, inequality and climate change by 2030.
Goal 7: Ensure access to affordable, reliable, sustainable and modern energy for all.

  • The energy transition needed to reach net zero emissions will create about 30 million new jobs related to clean energy technologies by 2030, many of which require additional skills and training. IEA
  • In combination with other sources of clean energy, SMRs will play a role in achieving the clean energy transition and boosting energy security in Europe in the coming years by helping to decarbonise industry, produce low-carbon hydrogen and provide heat to industry and urban districts. Energy
  • Overall PCE inflation is projected to tick up in 2025 even as core PCE inflation declines because the factors that have tended to limit price increases for food and energy are expected to recede. Congressional Budget Office
  • Inflation is projected to tick up to 2.2% in 2025 as factors that have tended to limit price increases for food and energy recede and as stronger economic activity modestly increases the pressure on prices for some types of services. Congressional Budget Office
  • Connecting Sicily with Sardinia and the Italian peninsula through a double submarine cable 970 kilometers long and 1,000 MW in capacity, Tyrrhenian Link will help foster the development of renewable energy sources, grid reliability and promote energy security in Italy. MarketScreener
  • By connecting Sicily and Sardinia with the Italian mainland via a 970 km, 1000 MW double submarine cable, the Tyrrhenian Link will foster the development of renewable sources, grid reliability and promote energy security in Italy. European Investment Bank
  • In summary, the significance of hydrogen lies in its potential to address climate change, promote energy security, and drive innovation across various sectors, ultimately contributing to a more sustainable and resilient global energy system in achieving 2050 climate goals. MDPI
  • We assumed that the future electricity mix has a higher share of clean energy at 75% for India and that projected transmission and distribution losses will be gradually reduced to 10% by 2050 for India and 9% for Brazil. Transformative Urban Mobility Initiative
  • Of the seven National Energy and Climate Plans that provided electricity demand forecasts for 2030, all show consumption increasing from 2020 levels, including increases of 13% for Italy and 17% for Spain. Ember
  • Despite being one of Europe's clean energy champions, Portugal has still not moved past a peak in wind generation achieved in 2019 (14 TWh), even though the updated National Energy and Climate Plan assumes a swift doubling of the current wind capacity, from 5 GW in 2022 to 12 GW by 2030. Ember
  • Energy companies in the United States are outpacing state policy because they are recognizing opportunities and receiving unprecedented federal funding to transition to clean energy. Yahoo News
  • Rapid expansion in green renewable energy capacity is underway, with BPCL's five solar projects and two wind projects, and plans to establish 5 GW of green renewable energy capacity by 2028. Energy Connects
  • Installed nuclear energy capacity decreases slightly, from 94 GW in 2030 to 88 GW in 2040 in line with the recently announced nuclear policy (71 GW in the standard scenario). EnergyVille
  • The share of renewable energy in total electricity generation rises from about 40% in 2021 to 87% in 2040, with wind and solar energy having the largest capacity. EnergyVille
  • Under Labour's plan, the energy grid will be made up of 82% of renewable energy by the end of the decade. The Guardian
  • JSW Neo Energy aims to achieve a 20 GW generation capacity and a 40 GWh energy storage capacity by 2030, progressing well towards its interim target of 10 GW by 2025, with a current capacity of 9.8 GW, including projects under construction. Renewable Energy and Environmental Sustainability in India
  • Demand for gas as well as energy from renewable sources such as wind and solar will be very high amid a boom in generative AI tools such as ChatGPT. The Telegraph
  • The AI revolution will trigger a global surge in demand for fossil fuels as the energy giant said it would ramp up gas production in the coming years. The Telegraph
  • India has become a leader in rapidly embracing renewables in the energy sector with over 280 GW of operational capacity and an aim to generate 50% of peak power from solar by 2030. Energy Connects
  • To address the associated energy costs, the Singapore Government launched the world's first standard for optimising energy efficiency for data centers in tropical climates, which will result in data centers gradually increasing their running temperatures from 22 °C to 26 °C and above. The Royal Society of Victoria
  • Renewable energy emerges as a critical factor in the feasibility of cellular agriculture, with the study indicating that A maximum 72% replacement of livestock products with cellular agriculture using renewable energy is possible based on the 2050 regional green energy capacities. iGrow News
